Your defence structure, on which the guns will be mounted, will be visible. Be wary of opponents who are approaching you. If all of the slime breaches the barrier, the game is over and you must begin again.
Protect yourself by enhancing the cannon's rate of fire, amount of fire, rate of fire, and fire damage. You can restore your shield as an alternative.
